It’s time for change: Massive success of youth “stand out, speak out” event!

The Leader of the GSLP, Fabian Picardo, held an event for young people at Latino’s on Thursday evening which was a massive success. GSLY members and young people from all walks of life and all social backgrounds attended the event which was designed to enable the younger members of our society to influence the Party’s Manifesto for the next election.

Fabian Picardo said: “I wanted to ensure that I had the input of young people on all subjects in our Manifesto. I don’t think young people are only interested in “youth” affairs. They are interested in all the issues that affect everyone in our society. From housing to employment, to healthcare and education, they had important views and fresh ideas which will influence what we put in our Manifesto and the policies that we present to the public.

“We are ready to fight a General Election as soon as Mr Caruana calls it. We have already started our campaign. It was important, however, that now that our Manifesto is almost ready to go to the printers we should give an opportunity to different sectors of our community to give us their input. This session with young people will enable us to refine some of the ideas already in our manifesto and make them better than they already were as a blueprint for the future of our community as we advance in the 21st Century.

“I don’t believe that young people, or indeed any people, should only be invited questions once every four years. The GSLP Youth Section has been in place since the party was created over thirty years ago. The Chairman of the Youth Section has representation on our Executive Committee and therefore our policy is always influenced by the views of young people in our party. This was the wider event allowing people from all the community, not just those who are already politically aligned with us, to influence our thinking.

“I want to thank the young people who attended for the time that they gave us. It was incredible to see how this Party has a reached all sectors of our society, all walks of life and all social backgrounds. We don’t believe in selecting people to attend such events and are happy that our doors are always open to people that represent the diversity of our community.”
