The GSLP/Liberals will introduce the Future Job Strategy, in order to ensure employment for all residents. This structure is targeted to be in place in January and contracts of employment as trainees with a wholly owned Government company will commence as from February 2012.

The GSLP Liberals note the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Communities in respect of the appeal by the European Commission and Spain on the proposed corporate tax structure which the GSD Government put to the Commission in August 2002 (which included a “payroll tax” based on numbers of employees and which related to whether or not a company was in occupation of business premises – but which were never implemented) on grounds of “Material Selectivity”. GSLP Leader, Fabian Picardo, has commented on the dissolution of Parliament and the calling of the election for the 8th December as follows: “The GSLP, and I am sure the people of Gibraltar, welcome the decision of the current Chief Minister to finally call the general election having delayed to almost the very last minute. The GSLP, along with our Liberal partners, are very much looking forward to presenting a programme to the electorate for the dynamic change that our community wants and needs.

“We will fight the election concentrating on the issues and policies that matter to people – and not personalities, whatever our political opponents may opt to do.

“We will now also commence the process triggered by this announcement, of selecting our candidates.”

Fabian Picardo: “An effective policy and law to stop bullying in the work place will be an important  step in reform of the public sector”

Fabian Picardo: “All workers, be they in the Civil Service or the private sector, have the right to be treated with dignity in the workplace.”

Recently the GSLP Liberal Opposition issued “A Better Future for the Civil Service.”  This discussion paper has been welcomed by the Civil Service union, the GGCA.
